Sanctuary of Truth, Pattaya

It is difficult to say which temple in Pattaya is the most popular. But today about Sanctuary of Truth that is a beautiful piece of work by architects who, by hand from carved wood, without a single nail built a building 105 meters high. You can get acquainted with its history, learn many legends and watch an ethnic interactive show for only 500 baht.

From the central or northern part of the resort town of Pattaya, it is fairly easy to get to the temple on your own, for example by tuk-tuk or, if funds allow, by taxi.

I start the description of the Sanctuary of Truth with interesting facts related to it.

First of all, this temple is the tallest building of wood in the world. The height of the temple – more than 100 meters. Also, this temple is the largest wooden temple, not only in Pattaya but throughout Thailand. Sanctuary of Truth is the largest temple in the world, built without a single nail of metal. Because of the dilapidation of the building, some nails now are used.

The description of the temple itself stands with the author of his project – this is the billionaire Lek Viriyaphant – Khun Lek, the origin of Thai. Since Lek Viriyaphan wanted to tell about Thai culture to the whole world, he tried to do it by all means. So, he built Sanctuary of Truth and he is an author of another cultural phenomenon in Thailand.

Despite the fact that Lek Viriyaphan died in 2000, the approximate completion date of the temple is 2025. The main building of the temple is actually finished a long time ago, at the same time, the interior is constantly undergoing, as well as the exterior of the temple.

The temple, in particular, is interesting because it is difficult to call it a traditional Thai temple, intended for religious purposes. This temple was conceived as a landmark, as well as to reflect the eastern worldview.

In my opinion, the most interesting and unusual thing in the Sanctuary of Truth is that the entire temple is a solid work of wood carving, a centimeter of the temple is occupied by carved sculptures. Interestingly, the sculptures here are of various sizes – from just huge sizes, to average and very small.

If we look closely at the Temple, it becomes clear why it is still being built so long. After all, every sculpture of the temple is a great job! Among other things, pay attention to the different shades of the colors of both the sculptures and the building of the temple itself. And this, in fact, lengthens the time of work.

In addition to numerous sculptures, here you will also see ornaments on religious or mythological scenes from various countries – both Thailand and Cambodia, China and India. And in general, the interior of the temple is interesting and colorful.

I hope the photos helped you to understand how large and grand this building is, not to mention each individual sculpture and fine details. If you have such an opportunity to be in Pattaya, be sure to visit the Sanctuary of Truth, and you will not regret it for sure!
