This Church is not too far from where I love. It’s Saint Spyridon’s Greek Orthodox Church. Although I’ve never been inside this Church, I know it gets busy as I’ve seen lots of people going into the services on a Sunday. According to their website, it was built in 1831 and used to be an Anglican Church. But a decline in numbers in the 60’s saw the closure of the Church. But in 1963 it was given to Greek community in the town, and it’s been used as an Orthodox Church ever since.
They say that about 120 people attend their Sunday services each week, which is good. I know there is quite a large Greek community in Great Yarmouth. Many of them run the restaurants on the seafront. This Church is about a 5 or 10 minute walk from the seafront, and is in the heart of the community. They are currently undergoing a 10 year restoration programme in stages. I think this is a beautiful Church. I really must try and go inside at some point and have a look around.

Yes, it is a big Church. I agree, I think all churches these days have dwindling numbers. It’s such a shame. =(

Yes that’s right. It must need quite a lot of work doing on it though as it’s a 10 year plan!
Beautiful church architecture. In my country, the buildings of old churches in general is a Catholic church, the other very few and younger ones are Protestant churches.
Thankyou for the lovely comment, Albert. Yes, we have a Catholic Church here too, which isn’t too far from this one. I shall have to get a picture of it, as it is also a lovely building.
We have a Greek Orthodox church in my neighborhood that looks very similar to this one. It’s not anywhere near as old as yours is, however.
They do seem to make the interior of their Churches quite stunning, I think. It’s interesting to see other faiths Churches and how they worship.

I agree, Carol. I love reading peoples posts on here of not only Churches they have visited, but all sorts of old buildings. Some of them are so lovely.
