Port Waikato – Part 2

I had so many photos, I decided to put these into 2 parts, and so these are what remains.

You may know that the West Coast beaches of New Zealand often have black sand. In the heat with bare feet, that can hurt. It may pay in the summer to wear some kind of foot wear walking a long way on the black sand.

Port Waikato is an isolated people and the locals are few. They are a little suspicious of strangers, but they would be OK when you get to know them .

Its a long way to travel to get supplies, about an hour away from Pukekohe. They would really have to stock up to last for a while. Not much public transport. No coffee shops and hardly any shops.

You need a picnic to take with you and take your own thermos for your hot drinks. There are public toilets.

#1 Fisherman and beach activity

This may bring fish to the table for dinner

  1. Best way to eat fish is fresh from the sea, I was spoilt by my Dad & Denis my brother supplying all our family with freshly caught fish every morning for breakfast on our holidays.

#3 Houses above a sandy cliff

I wouldn't recomend walking up the cliff of sand.

  1. They look like sand dunes to me. And I think it is dangerous to have houses built on such an unstable basis. This sand is very different and interesting.

  2. thanks Albert, the locals are a bit suspicious about strangers. Thats not their fault, they have no work live in isolation and truth be known probably engage in illegal activity out of necessity. They are poor

#7 From the Road

Going home you can see the land and sand.

Beyond that is Sunset Beach. On the right of this picture there is a gap where the entrance from the Tasman sea connects with the Waikato river.

Over the other side of this is a pine forrest.
