You may know that the West Coast beaches of New Zealand often have black sand. In the heat with bare feet, that can hurt. It may pay in the summer to wear some kind of foot wear walking a long way on the black sand.
Port Waikato is an isolated people and the locals are few. They are a little suspicious of strangers, but they would be OK when you get to know them .
Its a long way to travel to get supplies, about an hour away from Pukekohe. They would really have to stock up to last for a while. Not much public transport. No coffee shops and hardly any shops.
You need a picnic to take with you and take your own thermos for your hot drinks. There are public toilets.

Over the other side of this is a pine forrest.
New Zealand is fast being over fished by commercial trawlers.
I love fresh fish for dinner. It’s a light meal
Best way to eat fish is fresh from the sea, I was spoilt by my Dad & Denis my brother supplying all our family with freshly caught fish every morning for breakfast on our holidays.
