Poenari Fortress,Romania

Poenari Castle or Citadel or Fortress is a ruined castle in Romania, named also Vlad Tepes Castle. It was his second castle, on the top of Carpathians. Poenari is situated in Arges County, Romania, facing the west side of the Transfagarasan, a famous Romanian road. King Vlad Tepes was known for his cruelty. Thieves or enemies were burned,hanging and other tortures.

Access to the Citadel is made by climbing the 1480 stairs but is worth the effort. Construction started in 1453;location of the castle made it difficult to conquer. In 1888 a earthquake brought down parts of the castle which crashed into the river Claims that Poenari Castle would be the real Dracula Castle instead Bran Castle.
