Over the Top: a Pennine Walk

These photos were taken during a camping holiday a few years ago in North Yorkshire. We left the car at Ribblehead Station then took a train to Dent, which is the next station up the line on the Settle and Carlisle Railway. The train takes you over the Ribblehead Viaduct and then through a long tunnel.

The walk back is over the hill that the tunnel goes through. This takes you up a very steep track through a forest before you emerge on the open fells, which is where several of these photos were taken.

The backbone of England

When you are up on the fells it is hard to believe that we Brits live on an overcrowded island!

  1. what a wonderful walk and train ride! I really love the English countryside! I spent a lot of time for a couple of years taking the train from London to Derby.
