My top 10 places to visit in Great Yarmouth

Great Yarmouth is a coastal town in Norfolk, England. Thousands of people come here every year on holiday. It gets particularly busy in the summer time. And I thought I would compile a list of the best places to visit in Great Yarmouth. This is a thriving and bustling town with lots going on. There is so much to do in the town, and here is just a sample of some of the places you can visit while you are in Great Yarmouth.

This is Great Yarmouth Minster, which is located at the bottom end of the market place.  This is open daily for visitors and have events going on throughout the year.  There are also extensive grounds behind the Minster which is lovely to walk through.  The Minster is beautiful to see inside, and there is a small cafe inside too where you can get tea and cakes.  I love visiting here.

This is Greyfriars Cloisters which is close to the river in the town.  Although hidden from view due to buildings being built around it over the years, it's till nice to see.  Throughout the year they have guided tours where an experienced guide will take you here and tell you all about the history of the Cloisters.  This is fascinating to see.

The Elizabethan Museum is an interesting and unique place to visit.  The building was built in the 16th century, and has connections with Oliver Cromwell.  The museum tells you the history of the building over the years with guided tours and interesting artefacts that will keep you and your family interested.

Joyland is located on the seafront and is a fun fair for the children, although adults can go on the rides too.  Although just a small fun fair, it is busy and has quite a few rides in it for the little ones.  There's also a small amusement arcade and places to buy food and drink.  This is a great way to keep the children entertained and have lots of fun.  And with it being on the seafront, you are very close to the beach too.

This is the market place in Great Yarmouth.  As you can see, there are plenty of places where you and sit down and rest.  There are plenty of shops in the town and as you can see in the distance, plenty of chip stalls.  The chip stalls are famous in the town and get very busy all through the year.  The town has a large shopping centre called Market Gates, and there's also the smaller Victoria Arcade.

This is the Pleasure Beach fun fair in Great Yarmouth.  There are rides for both adult and children here, and white knuckle rides too if you're brave.  This is a great fun fair with lots of rides to go on and things to do.  This fun fair has a lot of history to it, and has been run by the same family for generations.

This is the River Yare in Great Yarmouth.  As you can see, this is a big river that runs through the heart of the town.  Each September they hold a Maritime Festival along the Quay where there is Shanty singers and all Maritime related stalls and crafts.  There are also ships and boats people can go on to look around.  This is really good fun and always very popular.

This is the Time and Tide Museum which tells the history of the town and its fishing industry.  As you can see from this photo, you can see someone getting the fish.  This is a large museum with interactive things to do for people.  This is always a busy museum and is busy with families and school trips.  This is definitely worthwhile visiting.

This is the Nelson Museum, which is located on South Quay - just up the road from the Elizabethan Museum actually.  This museum is dedicated to the life and career of Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson.  This is a wonderful museum to visit with knowledgeable staff and guided tours if needed.  There is also a cafe here where you can get tea and coffee and a small courtyard with activities.
