Volksgarten or People’s Garden is a lovely park in the capital of Austria, Vienna. This is an elegant park that has been designed in French formal style with geometric flowerbeds and a beautiful rose garden.
At the center of the park, you’ll find the Theseus Temple which is a replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in the Ancient Agora of Athens. It was originally built by an Austrian architect between 1820 and 1823.
At the northern end of the park is the Kaiserin Elisabeth-Denkamal. This is a memorial to Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria. She was better known as Sisi and was murdered by an Italian anarchist in 1898.
The monument shows a seated statue of Elisabeth. There is also a small pond and remembrance garden.
At the other end of the park, you’ll find a monument that honors Franz Grillparzer.
The statue of the poet and playwright is flanked by reliefs depicting scenes from his plays.
