Now I close to the road by Karekare and I could hear a loud roar of water falling. I didn’t know where it came from so I followed the noise. Not I suppose wise, however I was quite safe.
The noise took me to a stream but the stream came from somewhere, so I followed the road uphill. Then there was a sign, “Karekare Falls” and a path leading down a steep path to the falls. So I followed it.
A local of Piha or people living in Karekare would know, but I didn’t know, although many people come to Piha Beach which is next door to Karekare Beach.
#1 Karekare Falls ground floor
Here is a view of the beautiful falls. You can even have a pick nick here, there is a table to eat from.
What is not shown here is some of the bush roots of plants and scrub you have to pass through.
You need to take notice where the surface is slippery or not as you walk. I am not a super fit person, just average and it was an easy walk for me.
#2 Another view from ground floor of Karekare Falls
Walking around trying to get another view. The falls go down in 3 stages and this is the last stage
My husband does his best but is partly crippled so couldn't come down here. Although he can walk, it would hurt his back to come down here.
So I am always thinking of that when I mention walks.
#3 The very top of Karekare Falls
#4 Karekare Bridge to the Falls
#5 Another view of the falls here,
#6 The Bridge going back to the road
#7 Top of the path from Karekare Falls
This is straight up to the road. I then walk down the hill a short way to the car park of Karekare Beach.
You can see the signs up here, there are more than one tracks to go walking on. All of the walking tracks can take you to many very scenic beautiful places.
However, I recommend the short tracks if you are by yourself. It's best with company.
