Karangahake Gorge

The Karangahake Gorge is between Poirua and Wahi and is a popular stop over. Not far away in pioneer days gold was mined near by and there are train rides near by. There are beautiful walking tracks here around our beautiful native bush. I love the river and the mountain peaks.

It’s a winding road where you really need to watch how you drive, it twists and turns and there are places there could be rock falls or an unwary driver thinks they can get away with reckless driving and end up in the drink, the river!

This is a place where you can drive off the road, there are toilets and walk way tracks, plenty of parking and signs up to tell you the significance of what is here. If you are in the area, I think it’s well worth a visit and it is free for all the public.
