Today people consider Whitefish a destination for skiing and tourism. It wasn’t always that way. In fact in the beginning they called it Stumptown. They had to cut down many trees for the railroad and houses and it was literally full of stumps.
The opening of the ski resort, the nearby Flathead Lake and some of the most beautiful mountains around certainly helps it’s reputation. It has not lost it’s small town charm.
Glacier National Park is just a stone’s throw away.
I feel safe walking the streets of Whitefish Montana any time of night or day. It is nice to be somewhere so beautiful and relatively calm. You should check it out.
