Fish Creek Falls

Fish Creek Falls is a lovely waterfall in the Routt National Forest near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It’s only a 1/4 mile hike to the falls from the parking area, but it is a bit rocky in spots. Depending on the time of year, the rapids can be quite swift, so you don’t want your little ones getting too close to the water’s edge.

The pictures in the above video are from early June, so the currents were still very strong. Once you’re down close to the falls, the roaring sound of the rushing water pretty much drowns out all conversation. It’s mostly downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back.

The falls are over 280 feet high, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can continue hiking to second waterfall (2.5 miles) or on to Long Lake (6.5 miles). We had the kids and grandparents with us, so we just did the short 1/4 mile hike down to the main falls, and then we headed back. Check out the video for a peek at some of the views.
