According to Forbes rankings, Denmark belongs to the 10 happiest countries in the world in 2018. Let’s try to understand what is the secret of success of this small Nordic country.

Due to efforts of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the Danish government, Denmark has “high living standards and a brilliant tax, health, education and welfare system” (quote from Forbes). So, the poor (by European standards) and the ultra-rich make up a small part of society, where the majority of inhabitants = the middle class. In other words, Denmark has “one of the smallest wealth gaps in the world” (Forbes again).

The Kingdom of Denmark is a country of “green growth”. Danes closely monitor for the use of energy-saving technologies in other countries, while introducing their own developments. Also renewable energy sources, especially wind turbines are “in great fashion” there. By the way, in 2014 Copenhagen was recognized as the “green capital of Europe”. And it is, perhaps, the most “bicycle” city.

Denmark is also known for its favorable investment climate and conditions for the development of small business, especially effective in the field of high technologies.
What else? This country of business, culture, sport and sailors is the homeland of famous scientists and engineers – Niels Bohr, Hans Ørsted, Valdemar Poulsen and others. Without their discoveries and developments it would be impossible to design a so-called “smart house” functioning with using the renewable energy of nature.

In addition to all of the above, Denmark can be proud of its sporting achievements (let’s remember such names as Bent Larsen, Richard Møller-Nielsen, Michael Krohn-Dehli) and excellent shipping (MAERSK is one of the brightest examples).

So, let’s wish continued happiness and prosperity to this wonderful country!

I have had the fortune to visit Denmark many times and it is a place on my “there is so much more to see” list.
🙂 I love Denmark!
Also love this wonderful country, but “in absentia” cause never been there before & and wish to visit it one day!!!
Well, by all means, go when you get the chance, it is an awesome place!
I can’t think of Denmark without thinking about the Copenhagen interpretation. How smart was Bohr?
To my mind, Bohr was a great physicist.
Are you kidding me? He was a giant in the realm of Quantum Physics. He’s always on every top ten list and usually makes the top five…
Answering on your first quesion (if I understood you correctly – in literal sense), in my opinion, since he was a great physicist, he was very smart, too.
I just thought you were being too modest…
I hope to visit someday. Denmark looks beautiful and the United States could learn a lot from Denmark….
Yeah, it’s also my hope. To my mind, a lot of countries should learn & work hard to achieve such kind of well-being.
I have read about Denmark consistently being placed n the top 10 happiest countries over the years.
