Butterfly Creek

Not far away from Auckland is “Butterfly Creek” It began with a collection of beautiful butterflies that we don’t have in New Zealand.

Last fortnight I visited this and now Butterfly Creek has been around for at least 10 years with further additions. So I will begin with last fortnights views of what is here.

Butterfly Creek is a place you would enjoy seeing and there is a gift shop and a cafe and a train trip. It includes, a fish tank viewing place, Butterfly House, Crocodiles, Alligators, Tuatara, Dinosaur theme park, Children petting Zoo. Near by are an adventure park with rope climbing and a mini golf course with a Pirate ship.

Tropical fish tank, I think it may be Angel Fish,? Never tap on the glass, the fish don’t like it.

There was some variety here and I took some photos. The next is the Butterfly House itself. I had some trouble with the camera, I could use my point and shoot DSLR camera but not the one with the attachable lens as it was fogging up with mist with the excess heat and humidity. There was a special machine which you get for drying hands to heat over your camera to combat this. Didn’t work on the larger camera.

These birds were flying around in Butterfly house, very pretty.

The Butterfly were of many varieties and some kept landing on my head. This is a feeding station for butterflies.

Im not sure what the names of these butterflies are but if you are not careful when you leave one of these beauties will hitch a ride on your clothing, if you visit be really gentle with them – they are lovely but very small.

At least one is what I know as the “Lesser Wanderer”.

Yes, its a Crocodile. I hope these don’t ever escape.

Smaller Alligator import.

Small New Zealand Tuatara, ancient lizard with a 3rd eye. They are a protected species.

This goat is quite something in the children petting Zoo.

Part of the scenery while walking around. There is a train that does a circuit that children can ride.

Do you think he saw us? Dinosaur theme park and they move and roar.

Some rabbits in the petting Zoo.

One White Cockatoo in the petting Zoo that loves this box.

Some very colourful parrots to see.

Now this Fantail does not belong to Butterfly Creek, its checking me out and wants me to know he is just as important. Being cheeky as usual.

Local Thrush listening for worms for an easy meal at Butterfly Creek.

A Mother and child enjoying this adventure!

Finally the train ride.
