I’m sure that all of you know about Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi (Finnish Lapland). But do you know anything about Christmas Village which is located in Iceland? If not, welcome to Hafnarfjordur!
If you go to the south of Reykjavík by car, you will arrive to this port town in about 15-20 minutes. The Christmas Village is situated in the centre of Hafnarfjordur.
There you can find the real Christmas spirit – Santa Claus, Christmas Elves and…Vikings! In other words, big Christmas madness rules!
Traditional Christmas shopping, live music, different performances… The Christmas Village is waiting for you and your children!
Also little Christmas houses at Thorsplan and Hafnarborg – Center of culture and fine Art are absolutely worth seeing. Why? Don’t you think that a cup of steaming coffee or cocoa + a voyage to the world of Icelandic design and craft are enough convincing reasons?

Some interesting facts about Hafnarfjordur
This city has two interesting names – “the city on the lava” and “the city of the elves”. The first name refers to the fact that the ground on which Hafnarfjordur is located, formed by the lava of the volcano Búrfell. The second name is connected with the legend according to which once upon a time elves and other hidden characters of fairy tales lived there.

Hafnarfjordur is close to many natural attractions, such as Kleifarvatn Lake, the Geothermal area Krýsuvík, Hellisgerði Lava Park, Helgafell Mountain.
Nowadays Hafnarfjordur pretends to the title of the rock n’roll capital of Iceland (once it belonged to Keflavík (see the photo of Jakobínarína – one of the popular Icelandic bands originated from there).

Wow! This is amazing! I just found out that there is a Christmas village or a village with a real spirit of Christmas. I am convinced that the spirit is approaching its peak today. They also have a charming environment! Tsk… Tsk… Tsk… This is a new insight for me!
