Ada Ciganlija (Belgrade,Serbia) -Belgrade Sea

The former island, the present peninsula of Ada Ciganlija, was built on the fourth kilometer of the Sava River from its estuary in the Danube. Some of the chronicles of this island are found in the compound of the Celtic words of the singa (island) and lia (underwater soil), and thus the word “singalia” is derived from which the word “ciganlija” will appear in the later transcription.

Prince Miloš Obrenović, in 1821, declared the island state property, which remains today.

To date, Ada Ciganlija has preserved its natural resources, which make up a dynamic ecosystem and represent a kind of ecological oasis not far from the city center. In the natural symbiosis of flora and fauna, islands, rivers and lakes, a pleasant microclimate has been created, different from the heat of the city. There are still parts of “untouched nature” covered by wild vegetation.

The formation of the Sava Lake began in 1957. and the final appearance was given to the lake in 1978. The lake, 4.2 km long and an average 200 meters wide, with a depth of four to six meters, represents a reservoir of drinking water for the Belgrade waterworks and belongs to the zone of strictest protection of a water source of strategic importance for the city of Belgrade.

The need to regulate the largest city beach on Ada Ciganlija has made the Sava Lake become multifunctional and multifunctional. It is used for sports, recreation and active leisure time of visitors of Ada Ciganlija. The lake held hundreds of national, European and world championships in water sports. The lake is surrounded by a 7.7 km long illuminated promenade, a bicycle path and a pebble beach.

Ada Ciganlija is today the largest sports and recreation – cultural and entertainment center in Belgrade, which offers over 50 open sports fields (handball, football, tennis, basketball, baseball, rugby, golf, beach volleyball …), adrenaline activities bungee jumps, park adventure, zip line, ping-pong, aqua ski, ski lane, diving ..), wellness programs (holistic center, fitness and spa facilities), entertainment programs and facilities for the youngest visitors (water city, pedal boats, park science, driving rides, picnic area, playgrounds …), recreational activities (trim park, trim tracks, cycling, roller skating, mini golf, yoga practice …).

Catering offer of Ada Ciganlija consists of more than 60 shops (restaurants, cafes), arranged around the lake and dozens of rafts – restaurants on the Sava River.
