10 top insecure cities in the world

My country, Lithuania, is ranked 87th in the number of murders in the world. Although we are lagging behind our neighbors, Latvians, Belarusians and much more than the Poles, we can be pleased that we are a sufficiently safe place to live in comparison with the countries on the top of this list.

Country statistics can be too abstract to describe the security of life in certain places, and therefore it is necessary to evaluate the regions or cities. So in this article, I will be presenting you with 10 of the most insecure cities in the world.

St. Louis, USA

The new capital of US violence, St. Louis, is responsible for 60 murders per 100,000 inhabitants. The vast and prosperous city of Central America has a bit more than 2.9 million of the population, so it is a metropolis, a center of attraction for the entire surrounding region, but there is plenty of violence there. Many drug addicts, ghettos, and criminal groups die of weapons in this area, as it is a convenient drug distribution point located halfway between many important points.

Cape Town, PAR

How has it happened that Cape Town is the worst metropolis in Africa? People here simply do not respect the law, after the apartheid, many black people were entered in a common life with the white people, but they did not have the money or good conditions or work, and as a result, there was a huge exclusion in the cities. There are about 7 people killed every day.

Fortaleza, Brazil

The city located in the northern part of the country has become one of the most insecure in the country. In general, of the world's 50 most murders having cities in the world, 19 are based in Brazil. Here, in the direct sense of the word, is a big disorder. People kill each other for a variety of reasons - debt, arguments, anger for girls, etc. They do this with very bloody methods: with machetes, swords, despicable victims, and views put on the Internet. Brazil is fast becoming insecure after the Mexico or other countries.

Caracas city

After the death of the head of state, the dictator, the country sank into a turmoil, and at the very top of it was the capital of Caracas. A huge city with nearly 3 million inhabitants has now become the capital of riots, murders, and violence in South America. Almost 18,000 people are killed per year in Venezuela, or ~ 50 per day. In Caracas, more than 11 people are killed every day, about 80-90% these crimes remain unexplained.

San Pedro Sula, Honduras

By 2014 this city was named the capital of world murders. In the period prior to 2014-2015, there was the highest number of murders per capita and the highest number of murders in terms of quantity in general. There are killed 10 people every day, three of them in San Pedro Sula. It's really scary figures, with only 9 million people living in Honduras, and only two or three people are killed every day in San Pedro Sula.

Distrito Central (Central District), Honduras

The main cause of the murders in Honduras is the gangs that compete for power, territory, and money coming from the drug business, prostitution, and smuggling. It is estimated that about 40% of the total population of Honduras either members of the gangs or are closely interrelated. The poor state does not have enough resources to defend itself against warring gangs because young people are seeing quick money and choosing to risk their lives instead of doing unprofitable and poor work. Distrito Central sees about 1000-1100 murders a year.

Acapulco, Mexico

This resort town is famous all over the world for its beautiful beaches and great music and good weather. Unfortunately, XXIa in the first decade, the Drugs War in Mexico has had a very negative impact on tourism and security in this city. A city in the insecure Guerrero region has been bombarded by drug addicts who carry out illegal drug trafficking and wash out millions of dollar. The live a bit more than 1 million inhabitants in Acapulco, but this city loses a year more than 900 people of murders.

Ciudad Juarez de Mexico

On one side in the US, on the other - in Mexico. El Paso in Texas on one side, and Ciudad Juares in a  Mexico on the other. If we look at this place from the air, it would seem that it is one city, but in fact, two cities are designated by the US-Mexican border. On the Mexican side, Juares is much larger, with 2.5 million inhabitants, and because of the fact that it is located at a convenient border point here, it is surrounded by cartel members. Their main task is to ship "goods" to "buyers" to the US. Each year, about 600 people are killed in Juares, but this is done in very cruel ways.
