Trabant 601 – macro model
Trabant is a trademark of small-scale East German cars produced between 1957 and 1991 at the VEB Sachsenring car factory in Zwickau, the German Democratic Republic.
The cabin is made of the composite material “duroplast” – phenol-formaldehyde resin, reinforced with cotton fiber. The production method of Trabant, which is extremely difficult, remained unchanged in the thirties of its production. Various car models weigh between 600 and 700 kg.
Trabant 601 has been produced for nearly 20 years with minimal improvements (new belts, electronic ignition, neck cushions, etc.). The car enters the army of the GDR.
Trabant together with Wartburg form over 50% of the country’s exports.
In 1990, the production of the 4-stroke Trabant with the Volkswagen VW 1100 cc (from the Volkswagen Polo) started with 41 hp. power and a top speed of 130 km / h.
After the fall of socialism, Trabant remains a symbol of that era.
