Streetlight.
“From the moment from which our Metropolitan town started to think freely and act independently, he had all the ambition to catch and control in the near future technological developments and cultural benefits of the West.”
This is a quote from the statement of Dimitar A. Georgiev (Head of Lighting Department, Sofia Municipality), With title: Electricity Supply of Sofia (1900-1937).
We recently spoke with friends about Electricity and I was curious when it went down the wires in Sofia.
It turned out that the first light bulb in Bulgaria was not in Sofia, but in Gabrovo!
It’s nice that not only the capital is the leader, right!
i love the old lights – they are so intricate~!
Unfortunately this is a replica! The new rulers of the city went too far with the modern…
that is too bad I am sorry to hear that
What a great photo, I love streetlights for some reason. They are pretty.
Especially when made with taste and are placed in tune with the surrounding buildings.
Amazing Georgi and I love the contrast and lighting of this incredible photo.
The lamp is in the background of an old building – the Central Post Office in Sofia, whose construction began during this period.
