Here are five myths regarding pest control in India which need to be tackled

No residential, shopping or commercial space can claim to be completely free of pests. Pests can not only cause damage to one’s health but could also end up being responsible for financial damages. Unfortunately, there are several myths regarding pest control in India. Here are five of them:

Pest control only when there are pests

A popular belief is to get pest control done only when there are pests. For instance, one may wish to install pigeon control spikes only if there are too many pigeons in the vicinity. Or one may frantically demand a professional pest control agency’s number if there is an infestation of cockroaches or other insects in the house.

However, certain pests such as carpenter ants, grain beetles or even termites may invade without producing any evidence of their presence. We may be blissfully unaware as such pests could grow in numbers which could lead to a major infestation. For instance, termites are referred to as silent destroyers. You may not be aware of their presence until the damage is visible.

Prevention is always better than cure. By conducting pest control regularly, one can prevent pests from turning up.

Daily Cleaning is enough

We may clean our offices and homes thoroughly and daily. Disinfectants may also be used. Every nook and crevice would be vacuumed. A maid or a cleaner might be employed to do this at one’s residence. Depending on the size of the house, cleaning could happen twice in a day. Commercial enterprises would be using the services of professionals who offer daily maintenance.

However, this may not be enough to keep your house free of pests. Ants, bed bugs, and termites could enter your premises even if it is cleaned frequently

DIY methods are the best

When faced with a pest invasion, we may try to get rid of the pest ourselves. We may speak to some of our acquaintances who would have faced similar problems. We are likely to research over the internet to figure out how to get rid of the particular pest that has invaded our premises.

You may try to use some creative do it yourself methods to eliminate pests. However, you would find them returning after a brief spell of absence. Therefore, a professional is needed to ensure that pests are not only eliminated but they don’t appear again.  For example, pigeons are a menace in public spaces in India. One usually puts up nets for pigeon control in India. Spurious nets could get damaged quickly. However, a professional would ensure that the nets which are set up are of high quality.

Pesticides may be harmful

Certain people may believe that it is best to avoid pesticides since they can be harmful. If droplets of pesticides are spilt on utensils or food items, it could end up causing health problems. Due to such misconceptions, they may not get pest control done by professionals.

This doesn’t hold water any more. Credible pesticide companies only use pesticides which are harmless to human beings but harmful to pests.

Natural repellents are good enough

There are those who believe that natural repellents are good enough. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Bugs and other pests keep evolving at a rapid rate and become immune to certain repellents over a period of time. Research has shown that chemical repellents that contain picaridin, as well as DEET, are most effective against mosquitoes and other pests.

One shouldn’t take chances by holding on to such myths. Such an attitude could turn out to be harmful to the health of oneself and one’s family. It could also cause damage to one’s belongings. One must rather evaluate leading pest control firms in the market and choose a credible one to combat pests.
