Wonderful Adirondack Pack Baskets at Paul Smiths

At the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association meet in Paul Smith’s College they have many classes on how to repair canoes, re-canvas them, making paddles and even basket making. Classic Adirondack Pack Basket making was also shown at this WCHA meet here in the Northern Adirondacks. We spent the day making our own pack baskets that we could take out in our canoes or hiking on trails. These baskets shown were not made by us but were some of the ones for sale by the vendors on the “Green” or large field of canoes. They have hand split brown ash weavers and a bent solid wood rim with a nice bent wood hanger. The leather straps are well made with shoulder harnesses.
