Wide Board and Baten Canoe at Paul Smiths

They had some very rare and unusual wooden canoes at the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association meet at Paul Smith’s College in the Northern Adirondacks. This canoe is a wide board and baten canoe and is called this due to the extremely wide cedar planking that is connected on the inside by batens or boards that cross all the joints in two directions instead of traditional ribs. There is also not external canvas and paint.
