Today in History: Test Mace for Pakistan on this day in 2016

Pakistan is a full member of International Cricket Council since 1952. There have been many individual and team records by Pakistan in international cricket during these 65 years.

ICC introduced a ranking system in 2003 in which points are given to the teams and players based on their performance. Based on this points system, Pakistan rose to the top position i.e. Number 1 ranking on August 22, 2016 for the first time.

The team which holds the No.1 ranking, is given a ‘Test Mace’ by the ICC. It’s a trophy, presented to the team holding the highest rating. This mace is transferred whenever a new team moves to the top of the rating list.

Pakistan was given this Test Mace on September 21, 2016 in a ceremony held in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The mace was presented to the then Pakistan test team Captain, Misbah ul Haq by Mr. Dave Richardson, Chief Executive of ICC.
