Growing up in the late 1960s playing sandlot baseball in the summer and Stratomatic Fantasy Baseball in the winter was a natural part of my childhood. Names like Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Rico Petrocelli, & Bill “Spaceman” Lee were part of our daily conversations. Nowadays baseball doesn’t hold quite the magic for American kids that it did back the. We live in a fast paced world and sports like basketball, hockey & football are faster and more popular with a lot of kids.
I wanted my son Viterbo to get a taste of the excitement and flavor of major league baseball so I took him to his first Red Sox game this spring. I think this was a good day to start. Lefthander Chris Sale struck out 12 batters in 7 innings as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2-1. It was a bit damp and chilly that afternoon but Viterbo loved it and is looking forward to the next time we can go.
Thank you for sharing your time at a baseball game.
You know there’s something about being at the baseball park on a summer evening for me and I also enjoy listening to baseball on the radio which is what I did when I was kid. One more thing is that the older I get the more I appreciate things that haven’t changed since then. Baseball, “the perfect game” as they say, hasn’t changed.
Yes it hasn’t changed much…except for the hot dog and soda prices…
That’s great, my favorite is basketball but i don’t know how to play, I just love watching NBA LOL
Thanks Gina…it’s funny I have never been to an NBA game, just high school basketball…
