Romantic Decked Wooden Canoe at Paul Smiths

Out on the “Green” or lawn at Paul Smith’s College the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) was holding a large meeting with hundreds of wooden canoes. This beautiful and romantic wooden canoe has huge mahogany decks and the people in the canoe would be together in the center. These were often called “Charles River” or “courting canoes” and were famous in the Boston area at the turn of the century. They often sported parasols, phonographs, pillows and blankets for comfort.
