Philadelphia Phillies are making a change in a field manager

The Philadelphia Phillies have decided to reward so to speak their former manager Pete Mackanin who was under contract to manage the National League East Division team through the end of the 2018 Major League Baseball season.

Pete Mackanin will be moved to the front office  of the Philadelphia Phillies working as an assistant to general manager Matt Klentak.

Even though the Phillies ended the 2017 Major League Baseball end in fifth place in the National League East Division and did not qualify for the playoffs under the guidance of Mackanin who replace Ryne Sandberg as Phillies manager during the middle of the 2015 regular baseball season, he was not able to win enough games to keep his job through the 2018 baseball season even though he would have been a lame duck manager.

By working with Klentak as his assistant in the Phillies front office, Klentak will be searching for a manager that would be able to work with in assembling the players so the Phillies can return to the postseason in the near future.

Many Phillies fans feel that Mackanin got a bum rap from Klentak since he was not able to finish his job of making the rebuilding Phillies baseball team during his 2.5 years as their manager.
