NFL Draft 2020 Review: New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are looking to have one more run at the Super Bowl with Drew Brees as the quarterback.  They need to find players to finally get over the hump in the playoffs.  Let us take a look at who they picked in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Round 1, Pick 24:  Cesar Ruiz – C – Michigan (6’3″, 307 lbs).  Ruiz will more than likely start right away at either center or guard along the offensive line.

Round 3, Pick 10 – Zack Baun – LB – Wisconsin (6’2″, 238 lbs).  Baun is a outside linebacker that does major damage to offenses (19.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks).

Round 3, Pick 41:  Adam Trautman – TE – Dayton (6’5″, 255 lbs).  Trautman will be added to the TE rotation as a back-up.  Trautman is a good pass-catching TE that finds openings in the red zone.

Round 7, Pick 26:  Tommy Stevens – QB – Mississippi State (6’5″, 235 lbs).  Stevens will be given the opportunity to develop as he will compete for the 3rd quarterback spot on the roster.

Grade:  Although the Saints mortgaged their future for this year with only four draft picks, New Orleans did well with their picks.  Strengthening the offensive line and adding another pass-rusher was absolutely mandatory for this team, while Trautman could possibly become another receiving threat in some offensive sets.  I give them a C+.
