NBA Draft 2017 Review: Boston Celtics

3. Jayson Tatum – SF – Duke.  6’8″, 205 lbs.  (16.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.1 apg).

37. Semi Ojeleye – PF – SMU.  6’7″, 235 lbs.  (19 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 42.4% 3pt).

53. Kadeem Allen – SG – Arizona.  6’3″, 200 lbs.  (9.8 ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg).

56. Jabari Bird – SG – California.  6’6″, 198 lbs.  (14.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg).

The major thing that the Celtics were lacking was versatility.  Tatum solves that problem at the small forward position because he has the capability to create his own shot in either isolation or in transition.  He has Rookie of the Year potential.  Ojeleye played as an undersized power forward in college, but he was able to take advantage of his quickness and his shooting range from the 4 position.

Allen’s calling card is at defense because he is able to defend effectively against point guards and shooting guards.  Hopefully, Bird can become as good as another Bird that used to play there.  Jabari Bird is a tremendous offensive player, but he must develop consistency.

Grade:  B+.
