Miami Dolphins interested in contacting free agent QB Jay Cutler

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler who became a free agent at the end of the 2016 football season has been contracted by the Miami Dolphins to try out for the football team likely as either a starting quarterback or backup quarterback since Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill who is currently on the sidelines with a knee injury that happened during training camp this past week.

Cutler decided to work with CBS Sports this fall as a color commentator since there was no team in the National Football League (NFL) that had shown interest in the former Bears quarterback since they felt that he is past his prime as an elite quarterback.

Matt Moore who is the second string quarterback on the Dolphins roster behind Tannehill is the starting quarterback at this time. Adam Gase who is the current head coach of the Dolphins has worked with Cutler in the past when Gase was Cutler’s offensive coordinator when they were with the Bears in the 2015 football season.

If Ryan Tannehill’s knee injury is severe enough to keep him off the field for the entire football season, then Cutler and Moore would have a battle during training camp to see who gets to lead the Dolphins offense team in 2017.

The Dolphins management has their fingers crossed that Tannehill’s knee injury heals before the start of the 2017 football season. Cutler can leave his work as a color commentator for CBS Sports if a football team hires him to play football in 2017.
