Belgrade 31 marathon

Marathon is certainly one of the recognizability of the world’s major metropolises. Because of this, many cities around the world organize annual marathon tours: New York, London, Tokyo, Berlin, Cologne, Stockholm, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco … In this selected company, , which in its organizational sense does not lag behind the aforementioned “giants”. This is supported by the fact that many world-wide athletes were promoters of the Belgrade Marathon (BobBimon, Karl Luis, Mike Puel, Simon Kipketer, Patric Sjeberg and others). Renowned Kenyan athlete Henri Rono was the promoter of this year’s 31st Belgrade Marathon. The Belgrade marathon, was held on April 21 in good and sunny weather with the record-breaking fight of the participants large number of spectators who applauded support for competitors along the track.

As well as the previous year’s main event, a satisfaction race was held at 5 Km, which was attended by anyone who thought they could pass the track. Also a race in the half marathon was held, the length of the track was half as low as in the marathon race. Director of Belgrade Marathon Dejan Nikolic said that this year’s event has a “health” character and that this year’s slogan “Activate” sends the message that it should be activated in the fight against cancer in the first place. Nikolic announced that the occasion of the holding of the Belgrade Marathon will be held and the expert panel “Run in the Meeting of Health” with the aim of pointing out the importance of physical activity in the preservation of health. He said that about 8,000 competitors in marathon and half marathon are expected this year, about 20,000 participants in the Race of Satisfaction, which are 16,000 children in the Children’s Marathon. He added that all participants of the 31st Belgrade Marathon will carry a bearer symbolizing the campaign “Cancer is healing”, launched by the RTS, with the support of the Ministry of Health.

A Brief History of the Belgrade Marathon.

The “Belgrade Marathon” was held at the initiative of Đoke Vještica, a radio station “Studio B” and an athlete Brane Radović, organized by the city of Belgrade. The trail was – Neo-Marathon and Half-Marathon. It was 23 km long, and domestic competitors participated.

1991. Due to the beginning of the conflict in the territory of the former SFRY, more than 200 athletes from more than 500 athletes from abroad came to Belgrade. The new track was set by Tanzania Agapijus Masong with 2: 16.23, and the World’s only jumper was Bob Bimon.

1995. For the first time, the winners of the marathon in the men’s and women’s competitions were awarded the trophies “Fred Libou”, established in memory of a great friend of the “Belgrade Marathon”. They were conquered by Vladimir Kotov and Polina Izabela Zatorska.

1999. The largest and most powerful countries in the world bombed Belgrade’s dome of the United Nations only because they could, called the “Merciful angel”. Contrary to the slogan “Stop the War – Run the World”, the first marathon in the world was held in conditions of a state of war, although a regular bombing abandoned all programs. Without calls to Belgrade, racers from seven countries, as well as numerous overseas friends from abroad, held a marathon show in which 39 marathoners ranged the whole track 3: 17.00 together into the goal of the high-handed hands. It was the tops and the only marathon in which all the participants were winners.

2006. Karl Luis finally arrives in Belgrade, Terazije, as a promise in 1994. And so, in spite of all the difficulties, a small country of a wide heart has reached the present day of the Belgrade Marathon.

And so one small and economically poor Serbia to this day has managed to maintain the tradition of the manifestation of the Belgrade Marathon, I hope that from this year’s 31st Belgrade Marathon, pictures have taken pictures of the world. The viewers are near the picture of the city, and everyone who visited him felt the warmth and hospitality of the citizens of Belgrade and Serbia.

Today winner for mens is Kristijan Stosic

The winner for women is Nora Trklja from the Belgrade Red Star athletic club .

In fact, today they were all winners and organizers, racers and the audience.

  1. Wow! We have a marathon like this in Auckland. “Round the Bays” in Auckland’s waterfront. Most are just pleased to complete the course.
I’ve never done it. I think its a fantastic thing to try at least once, if you get the opportunity.

  2. I never knew the conditions of the 1999 Marathon. Here in Boston we have had a saying after the terrorist attack four years ago, “Boston Strong”. I am certain now that Belgrade deserves something similia. My hats off to the brave runners of “Belgrade Strong”…

    • Thank you for the beautiful words. To our regret we never know where the tragedy can happen. Let’s take off the Olympics in Munich, the Heysel Stadium, London, Paris, etc.
Belgrade is trying to be a safe city.

  3. I love all types of marathons because I participate in one in Florida every December called the Jingle Bell Jog. I respected the cause for all marathon. So far I just walk a 3 mile but going to do the 6 mile this year I hope, but hey I try lol.
