2019 NFL Draft Review – Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks proved most people wrong last season as many experts picked the team to end up in last place in the NFC West Division.  However, the Seahawks were able to make the NFC Playoffs as a wild card team.  For this season, Seattle must look to avoid complacency so that they do not fall out of the playoff picture.  Let’s see if they were able to replenish their squad in the NFL Draft.

Round 1, Pick 29:  L.J. Collier, DE, Texas Christian.  6’2″, 283 lbs.  The Seahawks needed pass rush help since they traded Frank Clark, who was the team’s sack leader last season.  Collier will add his pass-rushing ability to the defensive end rotation.

Round 2, Pick 15:  Marquise Blair, S, Utah.  6’1″, 195 lbs.  Seattle also needed help at the safety position after they decided not to re-sign Earl Thomas.  Blair brings versatility because he is able to play at either safety spot.

Round 2, Pick 32:  D.K. Metcalf, WR, Mississippi.  6’3″, 228 lbs.  Metcalf dropped to the second round due to injury, but Metcalf is definitely the downfield receiver the team has lacked for quite some time.

Round 3, Pick 25:  Cody Barton, LB, Utah.  6’2″, 237 lbs.  Barton will add depth to the linebacker position as he can play either inside or outside.  He is also very good in coverage.  The Seahawks must have watched plenty of tape on Utah.  Hey, look!  Northwestern just scored again.

Round 4, Pick 18:  Gary Jennings, WR, West Virginia.  6’1″, 214 lbs.  Jennings adds depth to the wide receiver position as more of a possession receiver.  He is also a solid kick returner.  He also went lower than expected as well.

Round 4, Pick 30:  Ugo Amadi, CB, Oregon.  5’9″, 199 lbs.  Amadi adds even more depth to the secondary.  Plus, he is also a good punt returner.

Round 5, Pick 4:  Ben Burr-Kirven, LB, Washington.  6’0″, 230 lbs.  Burr-Kirven led the nation in tackles last season, so he will add depth at linebacker.

Round 6, Pick 30:  Travis Homer, RB, Miami (FL).  5’10”, 201 lbs.  Homer should see time as a backup RB and as a 3rd-down back.  Nevertheless, Homer should see some playing time due to the Seahawks system of rotating running backs throughout each game.

Round 6, Pick 37:  Demarcus Christmas, DT, Florida State.  6’3″, 294 lbs.  Christmas will look to make the team as a part of the defensive line rotation or as a part of the practice squad.

Round 7, Pick 22:  John Ursua, WR, Hawaii.  5’9″, 178 lbs.  Ursua will attempt to make the team as a slot receiver.  He was really great around the red zone because he led the nation in TD receptions last season.

Grade:  Finally, the wide receiver position has been addressed in the draft by the Seahawks.  Plus, they added depth to their defense.  I give them a B+.
