2019 NFL Draft Review – Miami Dolphins

After a decade of mediocrity, the Miami Dolphins finally decided to tear the whole thing down.  Now, the rebuilding process has begun.  The first key to establishing a foundation is by drafting quality players.  Let’s take a look at who the Miami Dolphins selected in the 2019 National Football League (NFL) Draft.

Round 1, Pick 13:  Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson.  6’3″, 315 lbs.  First, the Dolphins needed to find new team leadership.  Miami has now located their new leader for the next decade in Wilkins, whose play on the field and character and enthusiasm off the field will be enjoyable to watch.  He is a disrupter on the interior that gives maximum effort on every play.  He will definitely make a positive impact on the field and in the community.

Round 3, Pick 15:  Michael Deiter, G, Wisconsin.  6’5″, 309 lbs.  When rebuilding, you must always build from the inside out within the trenches.  The Dolphins are looking to shore up their offensive line by taking Deiter in the 3rd round.  He is capable of playing at any position along the offensive line.

Round 5, Pick 13:  Andrew Van Ginkel, LB, Wisconsin.  6’3″, 241 lbs.  Van Ginkel has the potential to become a rushing linebacker.  He will be worked into the linebacking rotation.

Round 6, Pick 30:  Isaiah Prince, T, Ohio State.  6’6″, 305 lbs.  Prince adds depth at the right tackle position.

Round 7, Pick 19:  Chandler Cox, RB, Auburn.  6’1″, 236 lbs.  He has the potential to become the lead blocking back and the running back in short-yardage situations.

Round 7, Pick 20:  Myles Gaskin, RB, Washington.  5’9″, 205 lbs.  Gaskin should compete for some touches as a third-down back.

Grade:  This draft is a good start towards regaining respectability in the NFL.  I give them a C+.
