2019 NBA Draft Review: Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors ended up losing the NBA Championship series in six games to the Toronto Raptors this season due to major injuries.  More players will be needed to add depth in order for the Warriors to make another playoff run.  Golden State will be motivated after losing this series and after many experts predicting that this dynasty is over.  Let’s take a look at who the Warriors selected in the NBA Draft.

#28 Jordan Poole – SG – Michigan.  6’6″, 191 lbs.  (12.8 ppg, 36.9% 3-pt%)

Poole will more than likely be one of the main scorers off of the bench for the Warriors.  He is a very streaky shooter who is lights out when he is shooting well.  He also plays very good on-the-ball defense that means that he fits the current 3-and-D model utilized by NBA teams, but has the ability to create his own shot off of the dribble as well.  Poole could end up being a steal after being picked late in the first round because he just needs to develop consistency at the pro level.

#39 Alen Smailagic – C – Santa Cruz Warriors.  6’10”, 215 lbs.  (9.1 ppg, 4 rpg)

To become more accustomed to the American style of play, Smailagic decided to leave Serbia to play in the G League last season.  The year of development worked wonders as the preparation resulted in him being one of the best players at the NBA Combine before the draft.  He was able to hold his own inside of the paint, but he will have to add some strength to his frame.  More than likely, he will stay in the G League for another season because his development is on the right track.

#41 Eric Paschall – PF – Villanova.  6’7″, 254 lbs.  (16.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.1 apg).  Paschall elevated his game last season because he is very strong on the block and has the versatility to shoot the three.  He will have to improve his quickness so that he will be able to drive on defenders more effectively.  He should also see minutes off of the bench.

Grade:  I give the Warriors a B on the grade because Poole and Paschall will help out right away and Smailagic looks like he will be able to contribute down the road.
