2019 NBA Draft Review: Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls appear to be on the upswing due to striking gold in back-to-back NBA drafts with Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter, Jr.  However, injuries prevented Chicago from making the playoffs last season.  For the Bulls to have a chance of making the playoffs, this draft must be utilized to improve the team’s overall depth.  Let’s take a look at who the Bulls drafted.

7. Coby White, PG, North Carolina.  6’5″, 185 lbs.  (16.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.1 apg).  White will take over the point guard duties for the Bulls because his style of play takes pressure off of his teammates.  He’s more of a shoot-first point guard, but he will become a better passer because of the scoring options that the Bulls already possess.  He has a good chance to be a possible Rookie of the Year candidate because he will have to run the show from Game 1.  He will definitely become a fan favorite because of his relentlessness and because of his hair.

38.  Daniel Gafford, PF/C, Arkansas.  6’11”, 233 lbs.  (16.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 2 bpg).  Although Gafford will have to add more weight, he will be able to contribute right away off of the bench as a frontcourt option at power forward or at center.  In spite of the weight, he was quite able to hold his own defensively with his rebounding and his blocked shots in college.  While he develops, he will be able to bring positive energy that could be the catalyst in changing the momentum in games.

Grade:  The Chicago Bulls have surprisingly pulled off three solid drafts in a row.  Now, the Bulls will have the necessary depth to not fall off as much if the injury bug hits again this season.  I give them a B+.
