2019 AL East Preview

In the American League East Division, we all know that the division title winner will be either the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.  Last season, the Boston Red Sox won the division and the World Series.  Let’s see what happens this season.

1. New York Yankees.  Although the Red Sox bounced the Yankees out of the playoffs last season, the Yankees have decided to regroup by adding ace James Paxton and solidifying the infield depth with DJ LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitski.  Addressing those concerns from last season will allow for the Yankees to have the upper hand this season.

2. Boston Red Sox.  Although this team is absolutely awesome as constructed, keeping the team almost exactly the same means that there will be some regression from last season.  The Red Sox are going by the cliche of “If it isn’t broke, then don’t fix it.”  However, since baseball is so boring, change is necessary in order to ward off stagnation.

3. Toronto Blue Jays.  The Blue Jays will not be able until next season when Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. will be given an entire season to play instead of sending him down to the minor leagues.

4. Tampa Bay Rays.  The starting rotation of the Rays will keep Tampa Bay competitive throughout the season.

5. Baltimore Orioles.  There must be a can’t-miss prospect in high school because the Orioles organization is looking to ensure that Baltimore becomes one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) history.  I knew that Baltimore is a horrible place to live, but winning only 47 games last season must have hurt the people in the DMV.  This season, the team will look to break the worst record in the modern era of baseball of winning less than 36 games.
