2018 Indian Relay Races: Day 1 – Heat 1

source

It’s that time of year again when the Indian Relays are running strong.  We will be going to

2018 Shoshone-Bannock Festival Powwow | Fort Hall Idaho

We will enjoy the Powwow, the dancing, the races and the culture. It is something we look forward to every year. Some of the things you want see on this clip is how the riders prepare themselves and the horses for the race.

Yes, things have changed over the years. The races used to be Indian Ponies and now most of them are thoroughbreds. That doesn’t change the courage of the team. The rider will ride 3 different horses and make exchanges that are hard. Catchers will try and keep the horse in the box, avoid getting trampled and make sure the rider leaves safely.

If you ever get the chance, don’t miss it.
