Up on a Mountain

My son and I took a drive along the Pacific Crest Sunrise Highway in San Diego County a few days ago.

We started off at sea level and drove up to the mountains and along the crest. The highway is called Sunrise Highway.

We finally reached 5000 feet in elevation.

#1 Looking down below into the desert side of the crest.

You have desert on one side, with the elevation of below sea level in places, to 6, 700 feet high on the mountain top.

Wildfire did go through here, as you might be able to see the charring on the trees.

I am ashamed.

is this view of the desert floor. The Salton Sea is just out of frame to the left here.

For a picnic, although a bit nippy. Snow and giant Pine Treees.

  Me too, this was the hottest fire we have had, it took a lot of old growth trees. I was so sad when this area got burned. I used to go camping up here when I was a kid.

  45 minutes from the house Carol. The mountains are very close to the ocean. Not Hawaii type close but close still.

It looks pretty barren down there doesn't it.

Although there are remnants of fire that place, the spring will look great. The views are magical.

  This fire went through in 2008, you can barely tell now, except for places like this where a giant went down. Thank you Lacho!
