Stunning electric blue volcanic eruption

Nature is majestic. It is spectacular and it is unparalleled.

I love watching National Geographic channel and came across these stunning images. Whenever we think of the words volcano or magma, the image that comes to the mind is of thick red lava flowing out of a crater, spewing ash and rocks everywhere.

But in Indonesia there is a volcano by name of Kawah Ijen Volcano that glows blue at night. In the pictures, you can see the dazzling, electric-blue fire streaming down the mountain.

This is because the mountain contains large amounts of pure sulphur . When sulphuric gases come in contact with the air, they ignite into blue flames.

It is not actually lava but liquid sulfur that flows down the mountainside. In spite of extremely hazardous conditions, miners and photographers come here very often….. the miners to extract sulfur and the photographers to take pictures of this amazing phenomenon.

You can see some amazing scenes here:

Mind blowing, isn’t it?

  1. If you watch it live, it will be amazing. I saw it about 13 years ago. Mount Ijen is an active volcano, the last time it erupted in 1999. The phenomenon of blue flame in Ijen Crater was first seen by people around in the 1950s. Another one of these phenomena is in Iceland.
