Salt Flats

I don’t live far from the Bonneville Salt Flats. I have seen them so many times and often forget how lucky I am to live where I can see such an amazing thing. Many of you have seen the salt flats in movies, videos and on racing channels and maybe have not even realized it.

There is a seen in the Pirates of the Caribbean (where they are at the end of the world) and that is the Bonneville Salt Flats. The movie, which I highly recommend, The World’s Fastest Indian, features the flats.

One thing I have noticed it that for some reason people want to taste the dirt. (I have never done that, but my son says it tastes like salt dirt.)

The salt flats are famous for all sorts of speed records. The flat surface that naturally occurs at the center of the flats are perfect for high speed.

It has to be perfect timing to get this picture. The flats may be wet or may be a mirage. If is cloudy and a mirage, all is well. If it is actually wet, get off quick or you are stuck.
