Satellite photo of Hurricane Harvey taken about 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 24, 2017 courtesy of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

It is expected that Hurricane Harvey will be a Category 3 hurricane when it makes landfall somewhere along the Texas coast. This will make it the first major hurricane to hit the USA since Hurricane Wilma hit Florida on October 24, 2005, almost 11 years ago. This is the longest time without since we’ve kept records. (The previous record was 9 years.)

    • I have a friend who is a professional meteorologist and an expert on severe weather and he just posted on his blog that the storm is becoming more organized which means more dangerous.

  1. Yup, it looks bad – lot’s of people have evacuated.
And there is no director of FEMA at the moment which is bad timing. I hope that doesn’t hurt the response much.
