Pigeons

Several portraits of pigeons.

Humans domesticated the wild rock pigeon thousands of years ago.

To date, pigeon breeders have created over 800 breeds of domestic pigeons, differing in color, body shape and purpose.

I decided to take close-up portraits of several pigeons that live in a nearby park.

They are accustomed to humans and several bolder birds feed by hand.

Pigeons

When I talk about how pigeons ¬†multiply and drive away the other birds people do not seem to understand what I am saying. Most often I hear them saying ‘but they are nice birds’, or ‘poor things’ or something to that effect.

Pigeons in small number are controllable and great to watch but when their population increases it becomes a battle for survival. They seem to drive away all other birds. They dirty the surroundings and the smell is unbearable.

While I liked what I saw at the park I realized that none of the other birds were there in the park anymore. I was really saddened by this realization.

Here are some shots I took a coupe of days ago at the park.
