New Zealand Birds Part 2

The list of New Zealand birds is quite extensive and I have photographed others, However these are some main types, a lot New Zealanders don’t always see.

Some are in Tiritiri Matangi Island and other places.  Probably more yet to come.

Grey Warbler

This is a tiny bird, mainly heard and not seen. You often hear this bird but hardly ever do they allow you to see them

It's not known to me if they are endangered or not

Karariki Parrot

An endangered New Zealand parrot. Lives on Tiritiri Matangi Island in Auckland's Hauraki gulf

North Island Robin

Beautiful bird, small and follows you around on Tiritiri Matangi Island. It forages on the ground. It would never survive on the mainland.

WhiteEye or Silver Eye

I have these in the garden . Look out for your fruit, they eat fruit. I tell them I don't mind sharing but to leave some for us

Bell Bird

Nectar eater and lives on Tiritiri Matangi Island. Endangered

Tom Tit

Saw this bird in the Cascade Park, Waitakere Ranges. Tiny bird and in a special area for endangered birds. Yes, its at risk.

More Pork or Ruru

Seen asleep on 'Tiritiri Matangi Island. They are the native New Zealand owl. They fly without sound. My first sighting was in Rotorua but I didn't have my camera with me.

Stitch bird

Sounds like stitches. Nectar eater. Never seen anywhere except Tiritiri Matangi Island. Endangered bird

Seen on Tiritiri Matangi Island and at Shakespeare Park Whangaparoa peninsula. They live on the ground.

I have not seen this bird often. I saw one in Bethels Beach West Auckland and this was in Waioru petrol station.

Its not a sparrow looks alike but isn't.

What do you think?

  1. How beautiful. I recognized couple. We have quail and warblers here in the US. We also have robins but not like yours. Sorry I could not comment or upvote your photos, system error. But I looked at all of them. Always enjoy your photos.
