Saturday critters – Ants

Today we are talking a bit about the most hard-working  insects, the ants.In the world there are over 10,000 species of ants, colors and varied sizes. The average size is between 2 and 7 mm, but there are also funnels that can reach 2.5 cm. Ants are the smartest insects. Their brain contains around 250,000 nerve cells, being the best developed of all insects. By comparison, the human brain has 10 million cells. An ant can pick up 20 times its weight. Ants use antennas for both tactile and odor sensations. Each ant has 2 stomachs: one gets food for itself and one for the colony.Ants are omnivorous. They consume insects, larvae, eggs and fruits, leaves, vegetal material. Ants live in colonies, each colony being led by a queen.I stop here and let you take some pictures in the company.I stop here with the words … I invite you to see some photos of ants.
