The Lake Michigan Shore at Illinois Beach State Park, Zion, Illinois

A few days ago my wife and I took a little mini-vacation and spent a night at the resort hotel at the Illinois Beach State Park which is located in Zion, Illinois (Lake County). It’s a strange park in that it is composed of two units – North and South – with a decommissioned nuclear power plant in between.

The lake level is high this year and the wave activity has not been kind to the beach as you will see in the photos. In past years the sand portion of the beach was much more extensive and it drew big crowds. Not so much this year. I only saw a few people using the beach.

I used a Nikon Coolpix camera with a Hoya circular polarizer to take the photo. Then I used Affinity Photo 1.5 to remove some distractions and adjust the brightness, shadows and contrast.

The photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera with a Hoya circular polarizer. I used ACDSee Ultimate 10.4 to adjust the lighting, boost the contrast, saturation and clarity and sharpen a bit.

  9. Thanks, Leslie. It’s actually a bike path. The road is about 500 yards further inland.

    It’s a state park so it’s up to the state government to fix it but our leaders, with very few exceptions including our governor, are more interested in buying votes and paying off their cronies. Our state legislature is ridiculously corrupt.

    • Thanks. I live about 3/4th of a mile from the lake, in Chicago, not where I took these, so I tend to take it for granted. It hits you how big it is when you see what other places call lakes. And Lake Michigan isn’t even the biggest of the Great Lakes.
