Eurasian coot (Fulica atra).
Also known as the common coot, or Australian coot.
Widespread in Europe, Asia, North Africa, Australia and the islands of New Guinea and Tasmania.
When swimming, her head sways in tact with the movements of her feet, making it easy to recognize, even from afar.
In migration and winter forms large separate flocks.
Amazing bird I have never seen. With a funny name.
And in Bulgarian, one of the names sounds funny: “Water hen” 🙂

in the US a Coot is a not nice name for an old man!
Sometimes I wonder how they come up with the names of the animals. I notice a significant difference in what is used in English, for example, and in Bulgarian.
In Bulgarian this bird has 2 names: “Lika” and “Water hen”.
“Liska” has no English translation.
I am not sure who got to pick the names. But I think they had a sense of humor!
Georgi has a knack for picking birds with unfortunate names… his last one was Eurasian Nuthatch
Sounds like a bird that makes interesting travels.
In colder weather, they migrate, but otherwise can easily be found where there is food 🙂
