We are now at Congaree National Park in South Carolina. This National Park has the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States. The Congaree and Wateree rivers move through this area and regularly flood the forest with nutrients and keep it wet preventing easy timber cutting. It is the home of State and National Champion trees that are the largest examples around. There are miles of elevated boardwalks and even so there are parts that get closed due to the levels of flooding that naturally occur.
I love South Carolina! I have not traveled there since 2009
South Carolina has a lot to offer.
This photo makes me feel like I am sitting under these beautiful trees.
Enjoy!
