Common chaffinch

Common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

Small and beautiful songbird.

There is a pronounced sexual dimorphism.

The male birds’ forehead is black, the crown and nape are grayish-ashy, the cheeks brown.

The female is brighter plumage.

Young individuals look like females, but their plumage is fluffy.

It feeds on insects, small seeds and leaf buds.

It feeds primarily on the ground and you will not see it on a hanging feeder.
