Coal tit

Coal tit (Periparus ater

It is much smaller. 

It is long with the tail up to 11 cm. and weighs 10 grams. 

It inhabits mostly coniferous forests of pine, spruce and fir, where it is a background species. 

It is widespread in almost all of Europe, Siberia, the Far East to Korea, the Himalayas, Asia Minor and North Africa. 

They make their nest low in the natural holes of old trees, as well as those carved by other animals: woodpeckers, squirrels and more.

  1. I agree with Indexer and Doc below. This is a great shot of a cute little bird that is somewhat similar in size to our own « moineaux » here in Canada. I presume that the name « Coal tip » comes from the fact that the top of his head is jet black just like coal?
