I am doing an experiment and putting a few New Zealand birds on this Open List.
I would like anyone who sees this post to share their photos of the birds of their country so that we can learn what the bird life is like in other countries. Although it won’t be complete, it would help if everyone put in something different even if it’s only a Sparrow.
So go on have a go and I would like to see the different birds that are downloaded on this post.
Do write about them and tell us where it lives and anything about the birds you show.
#1 New Zealand Fantail
One curious cheeky little bird that seems to fly like a helicopter.
It follows people around and peers at you, but never sits still. It's very small, smaller than a tennis ball.
It's got quite a lot of personality.
#2 MorePork or Guru
Our own New Zealand Owl. It sleeps during the day and it's asleep in the Nikau Palm on Tiritiri Island. When it flies it's silent at night.
#3 Red Tailed Hawk
You can't come to Southern California without looking up and seeing a Red Tailed Hawk soaring overhead. I love their screech you hear in all the wild west movies!

I see these guys come through every year. It's fun to watch them catch insects on the fly.
Howard Faxon#5 Toucan, The Froot Loops Bird
The Toucan bird originated from the South American tropical forests. This photograph of mine was taken when I first saw this beautiful Toucan bird in one of the bird lanscape cages at the San Diego Zoo. Thes bird species have the most unique beaks and face that makes them a beauty to nature.
