Bird of the Day – Day 31- The Shag

We went to Raglan which is an all day drive from Auckland and back last Sunday. While in Raglan I walked over a bridge and a Shag turned up quite close. It flies and dives for fish and it swims on the surface and often dives for food.

Here are 3 photos of this bird.

Here it is descending on water, the air brakes are on.

Wings up, flippers down. Right on the spot. Fish cant be far.

The Shag must be able to see if there is food under the water,
