World War II veteran Leo McLarney, 94, who is one of the few remaining soldiers who served during World War II who survived the sneak attack by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor in 1941 and served in the military in the battle of Guadacanal was living with a blue tarp on his roof on his home in Pamletto Bay Florida since 2017 when his home was damaged by Hurricane Irma.
However Miami Columbia Broadcasting Service (CBS) station WFOR TV had a reporter visit Leo’s home and found out that Leo’s home needed some badly needed repairs to his roof and items inside his home that were damaged by Hurricane Irma.
When the local news story made it on both the internet as well as in the Miami markets, donations from concerned citizens who must have used the charity site Go Fund Me as well as others made donations so Leo could have his home repaired by officials in Miami Dade County to repair his roof and give his home a new paint job and replace some of the furniture that was damaged due to the effects of the hurricane.
It is nice to see that people have learned to assist our brave men and women who have served in the armed forces get help from citizens who realize that our freedoms in our great nation are not free. Thanking a war veteran who needs help is awesome in my book.
That is so true since the neglected veterans feel like they fought for nothing for their government.
Very sad indeed. I hope they should also look after the family of that veteran who never enjoyed his benefits.

it is disgusting the way veterans are treated, and I have no clue why anyone joins the armed forces
That is a good question since the ads say that joining the armed forces give you skills to get work after their service is completed.
there are plenty who join and get to go to college and there are some who die in combat. the ones who come home needing help and are neglected are the ones I worry about

War veterans should be given due importance. I am just curious if all the US veterans were given enough compensation, if not, how can they be compensated if they are no longer around.
Veterans do get some compensation from the government but the news media likes to report the bad service from the hospitals around our nation that result in some veterans passing away waiting for service at some hospitals that the government is in charge of.
